Three things we love have finally come together.
The first is “This American Life“, the podcast. We can hardly believe we hadn’t heard of this radio series until it shot to the number one podcast. We were curious to hear what all the fuss was about and now we’re hooked. It’s now the second best thing on the radio, following closely on the heels of CBC’s Wiretap with Jonathan Goldstein (coincidentally, a contributor to This American Life).
The second is Alternate Reality Games, which construct an alternate universe to tell a story. A good context for this circumstance might be a film like “The Game“.
The third is a perfect mockery of both in the latest Kasper Hauser Comedy Podcast. This SF comedy troupe has got some great gems (hear: Shatner on Acid) but their impressions of This American Life are hilarious. They don’t pull any punches, and when they cover the ‘fake high school’ concept I can just see all the cool factor of ARGs being popped with a pin.
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, then we’ll bet you won’t be tearing up with laughter that way we did. But perhaps the image of a 292 lb seahorse crying will ease the pain.
