TV 360: Developing Multiplatform Programming

The Banff World Television Festival and nextMEDIA present the inaugural Telefilm Canada TV 360 Program.
About TV 360

The Program is designed to train Canadian writers, directors, developers, interactive designers, show developers and TV, film and new media producers, to develop multiplatform projects and pitch them successfully both to Canadian and international buyers. Prior new media experience is not necessary; however applicants must be professionals from the new media, film and television industries. There are 9 slots per team. Come one, come all! As noted, above, anyone with significant entertainment experience may apply, whether in traditional TV production or in digital production.

Accepted applicants will receive full festival registration which includes admission to all official social events, air transportation (transportation allowance based on lowest airfare available) and hotel accommodation.

What to Expect

Each TV 360 team will comprise nine members. All teams will work against the same multiplatform creative brief, which will be revealed in nextMEDIA Banff on Saturday, June 6. Final pitches will take place on Wednesday, June 10, to a panel of entertainment executives. Team members should plan to be in Banff for all five days of the Program.

Roles

Team Lead: A cross-platform production expert who acts as creative director and producer for a single team. All team communication with TV 360 Mentors, Broadcasters and Funders will be channeled through the Team Lead. Team Leads include Anthea Foyer, Training Programs Manager at CFC Media Lab, Mark Hand, a Cross Platform Specialist and Evan Jones, Founder of Stitch Media.

Mentors: These subject area experts provide coaching to all teams, without prejudice, on social media, mobile, gaming, design and technology, among other areas. Teams will be able to share their ideas with Mentors in private sessions and receive pointers to improve their concepts before the final pitch. Mentors include Dante Anderson, Vice President of Product Development of Kuma Reality Games, David Gale, Executive Vice President, New Media at MTV Networks and Dario Meli, Partner of Invoke Agency.

Broadcasters:
As a supplement to the team pitch exercise, several TV networks and production houses will give overviews of their current expectations for multiplatform pitches.

Funders: As a supplement to the team pitch exercise, executives from Bell Fund and Telus – funders of the inaugural TV 360 program – will give advice about multiplatform productions. Both organizations have long histories of developing cross-media collaborations and can offer valuable insight for your projects.

Applying to the Program

Interested parties may apply as individuals or as teams, since many people have longstanding creative partners. If you decide to apply as a team, please limit your team to three people. Previous new media production experience is not required to participate in TV 360 training, and the Program is a fantastic opportunity to get your feet wet.
Benefits

The Telefilm Canada Television 360 Program will give you a better understanding of how to develop smart programming and marketing strategies for your own productions. It will give you access to decision makers in the broadcast and funding worlds. In addition, all individuals who complete the Program will receive prizes from nextMEDIA and Banff World Television Festival on Pitch Day.

Thank you for your interest. Please note – Only successful applicants will be contacted.

Application deadline is 5pm EST, May 15, 2009.
