If you’re enrolled at the University of Southern California and have an interest in transmedia storytelling, Dr. Henry Jenkins – author of ‘Convergence Culture’, is offering an amazing course on the subject this fall. Dr. Jenkins specializes in participatory culture and takes an academic approach to studying how fans interact with media.
The course will explore new modes of storytelling in which narratives carry over different media platforms and how these worlds are shaped by creators and fans. Guest speakers include cutting-edge thinkers from the media industry who will talk to students about the challenges and opportunities which transmedia entertainment offers, walking them through cases of contemporary projects that have deployed cross-platform strategies. The list of guest speakers includes Jeff Gomez of Starlight Runner Entertainment, Faris Yakob of McCann Erickson New York, Mark Warshaw of Heroes, Geoffrey Long of GAMBIT Game Lab, Jesse Alexander of NBC’s Day One, Ivan Askwith of Big Spaceship, and more.
Evan is excited and flattered to be invited to speak on September 23 about creating alternate reality games.
