Social Media Map 2010 Edition

December 8, 2010

In 2007 we first saw the Map of Online Communities – in this brilliantly illustrated data visualization, MySpace reigned supreme, Facebook was barely visible, and no one had even heard of Twitter.

Enter the 2010 Map of Online Communities, a world surrounded by memes and viral content, dominated by Facebook, and sure to have a vastly different landscape in another three years. Just as content in the social media space is always moving – quickly consumed, shared, and forgotten about – many of these networks and communities are sure to develop, grow, change, and perish. It will be interesting to see what this map looks like in another three years and how the ever growing mobile market changes the land.

I think I might take my Holiday vacation LOL Cat Island.

Stitch Media Movember Team: Day 30

December 1, 2010

It’s December 1st – a day when spouses all around the world rejoice as their husbands, boyfriends, and partners finally take a razor to that scratchy, hairy beast that had been living atop their lips for an entire month.

Over here at Stitch Media, the boys took one last quick photo shoot before hacking away at their once beloved moustaches. And while we’re sad to see them go, we are pretty happy to say these furry upper lips helped us raise over $1,300 for the Movember Foundation and Prostate Cancer Canada. We’d like to thank everyone who supported the team along the way, your donations encouraged the guys to just keep growing, and of course, benefits a really great cause.

Now the men of Stitch Media will be facing the harsh December air with no moustache to help keep them warm and we welcome any donations of hand knit scarves and balaclavas to aid the guys through this transition.

As for you dear friends, if you anticipate any Stitch Media Movember Team withdraw, have no fear; we’ve uploaded a bunch of new and never-before-seen mo-pictures to our Movember Facebook album (including moustache close ups, nunchucks, and more).  And just remember, we’re only 11 months away before Movember 2011 begins!

Stitch Media Movember Team: Day 25

November 25, 2010

This morning has been pretty Oprah centric in the Stitch Media office. Not only have the guys decided to Oprah-fy their faces for this week’s Movember update, but I’ve been reeling over the list of Oprah’s Ultimate Favourite Things. For those who are unfamiliar, Oprah’s Favourite Things is a tradition in the Oprah-verse, where she acts like Santa giving her audience members tonnes of free stuff. The only hitch is, no one ever knows when she’s going to be holding the show, so the audience is always crazy surprised.

Last week Oprah unveiled her last ever Ultimate Favourite Things and she did not disappoint. She gave her guests close to 54 grand worth of stuff – and some of that stuff is pretty darn cool. I don’t have much use for a $500.00 cashmere sweater but a 3D TV, a brand new SLR, an Apple iPad, 5 year NetFlix account, GroupOn gift certificate, a cruise, and a car – well, that I can use. You can join me in my jealousy by checking out the list of all the stuff Oprah gave her unsuspecting audience here, or better yet, amuse yourself with the audience reaction video posted above.

Of course, the holiday season isn’t all about getting, as Oprah demonstrates it’s about giving as well. And while our wish list now includes Gold Sequins Uggs and diamond watches, you can make our ultimate holiday dreams come true by donating to our Movember page. Really, your support and donations is one of our favourite things.

Mo-Jealousy

November 24, 2010

I have to admit, with all the attention the dudes at Stitch Media are getting over their mustaches, I’ve been feeling a little left out. A little, mo-jealous if you will. So I decide to fashion myself the mustache I could never grow. To be honest, I don’t know if it’s the Italian in me, but I can’t help and look at the picture at above and see Super Mario. The resemblance is uncanny and I’m a bit worried that I’ve missed my calling as a plumber. That said, the Stitch Movember Team is still ‘growing’ strong and could use your support. Check out their movember team page and make a donation; all my mo-jealousy aside, I am really proud of the dudes for all their fundraising efforts and really grateful for all those who have supported them in their facial-hair journey!

Redress Remix wins at Reel Asian

November 17, 2010

This ‘living documentary’ scored the TSV Visionary Video Award at the 2010 Reel Asian Film Festival. Notes from the jury: “An important, timely work that freshly illuminated historical, political and personal struggles and brought a brilliant combination of research and innovation into the process of reclaiming our history.”

Stitch Media Movember: Day 16

November 16, 2010

It’s getting harder and harder to take any of the guys at Stitch Media seriously. Whether its a staff meeting or a friendly conversation about Facebook email, I can’t help but furrow my brow every time my eyes land on one of these furry upper lips. Us ladies at Stitch Media spend most of our time finding shiny objects to help advert our eyes from all the facial hair. To think we’ve only just crossed the halfway point of Movember as well…man, I don’t know how much more of this I can take until all productivity is completely shot.

At least its all for a good cause – men’s health, prostate cancer, that sort of thing. These guys have not only dedicated their upper lips to supporting the health of men’s under carriages, but they’ve raised nearly $1000.00 in the process. Check out the Stitch Media Movember team page to donate to the cause and show our team your support! You can donate online and all donations are tax deductible.
